About
I am Dominique, a classical soprano-in-training and aspiring pastry chef. I study vocal performance at a university, and spend a lot of free time in my kitchen. I am an enthusiastic fan of both classical music and the pastry arts. I’m not sure which passion will end up being my career and which will be the hobby, but for now I am baking, singing, and enjoying life.
At first I was really annoyed – for about 3 minutes.
Another soprano in the kitchen? Why not embrace my fellow singing chef, I decided. I like what you are doing on here. I tend to concentrate on making healthy food taste spectacular. SO how long have you been singing and cooking baking?

I’ll be in my senior year as an undergrad vocal performance major this fall, but music’s been a lifelong love. Baking is a more recent hobby for me, so I’m still a newbie, but I do love it! What about you?
| Posted 1 year, 11 months agoI’ve been singing since age 2 (currently I am 33) and in the kitchen since forever! Mom is a fantastic cook and baker – she used to make cakes for friends and family and to sell, the really gorgeous ones with famous cartoons for kids birthdays and icing roses on wedding cakes. My family is very musical on both sides. I have an excellent head start in both singing and creative foods. Singing is one of the things I’ve just always done well. I only really think about it when it’s gone temporarily, as it is not. Allergies have been bad this year and I haven’t had a voice for almost 4 weeks. I’m still waiting for my top octave to return. I started private voice lessons at age 16 and studied vocal performance and education for 2 years at university…then life took an unexpected turn and I never return to school. I did take a few more years of voice privately. Now I am a vocal coach. (www.fordvocals.com). I’ve been teaching since 2000. I love it! I also do community theater and have just started a community theater group with a friend. (www.youngfrog.com). I sound like an ad with all these websites! It’s been a busy year for me so far. Anyway I also sing, play bass, and Irish flutes at my church for the Saturday evening service. As for kitchen time, I love to invent! I have something called PCOS, which is often a precursor to type II diabetes, so I have to be careful of what I eat, but I love good food! So many “healthy” foods taste just awful! And so it is my goal to make good for you food taste good too. Many friends and family were asking for recipes and so I started blogging. The movie”Julie & Julia” was inspiring, too. So do you cook or just bake? There is a difference and some people prefer one over the other.
Posted 1 year, 11 months agoBaking is my first love, but I do enjoy cooking as well. I have a lot less experience with cooking, so I’m still kind of poking around and learning as I go.
Posted 1 year, 11 months ago“Julie & Julia” was a very fun movie. “Chocolat” with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp is probably my favorite foodie film. One of my favorite movies ever in fact!
Hahaha, make that a third soprano in the kitchen!
I’m just a ‘baby’ though, or so my fellow music majors call me. Gettin’ a late start in singing due to parents who weren’t supportive. I’ve been singing for about 4 years, and taking serious lessons/declared my major for about a year, roughly. And the past year or two I’ve been getting REALLY into baking as well! I was seduced by custom, alternative cakes (like on Ace of Cakes!) and it branched out from there!
I think your chocolate cake looks DIVINE. I’m dying to try that frosting on something! I think my favorite things to bake are red velvet cake, meringues and almost any cookie or cupcake. I’m teetering dangerously close to starting work on pies as well….

Good for you for pursuing your passions, even when those around you weren’t supportive.
I’m a big lover of cakes of all sorts, cupcakes as well. I haven’t been doing cakes for long, but it may become an addiction!
